14-Year-Old Arrested For Bomb Threat at NY High School

Marathon, NY — (NYSP) — On September 26, 2016, at approx. 9:30 a.m., the New York State Police at Homer responded to the Marathon High School, East Main Street, Marathon, N.Y. for a reported bomb threat.

Prior to police arrival, school officials directed the school be evacuated. The ensuing investigation determined a 14 year old male student had told another student that he had a bomb in his backpack which was on school grounds.

The New York State Police Bomb Disposal Unit, with the assistance of an Ordinance Detection Canine checked the backpack and entire school for an explosive device and determined there was no such device present.

On September 26, 2016, the 14 year old student was arrested for the felony of Falsely Reporting an Incident 1st Degree. The student was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Cortland County Family Court at a later date and was released to his parents.
