A joint investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and Long Branch Police Department continues, but it appears the 16-year-old boy used a Century Arms semi-automatic rifle to kill his victims.

The teenager was taken into custody without incident. A motive for the crime was not known.

The suspect’s brother and grandfather escaped unharmed. They “thankfully left the home and came out OK,” Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said at a press conference Monday morning. “It’s a terribly tragic incident,” Gramiccioni said.
