Husser, LA- Two female pedestrians have been killed and the driver of the vehicle that struck them has been booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on two counts of Vehicular Homicide. The fatal crash took place shortly before 4:00 AM Saturday August 1st, 2015 on LA 1062 west of LA 445 in Husser, Louisiana.

Investigating Troopers were able to determine that a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 26 year old Katy Robertson of Walker, LA was traveling eastbound on LA 1062. Simultaneously, 32 year old Charlotte Woods Ross of Loranger and 28 year old Angel Simmons Gill of Husser were both walking in the center of LA 1062’s eastbound travel lane.

Robertson’s vehicle struck both pedestrians. After the collision, Robertson left the scene and called a friend for help. Robertson told her friend that she had been involved in a crash with a deer on LA 1062. Robertson’s friend then returned to the crash scene and discovered the bodies of Ross and Gill.

Charlotte Woods Ross and Angel Simmons Gill were both pronounced decease on scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Troopers placed Katy Robertson under arrest for suspicion of DWI. She provided a voluntary breath sample which resulted in a BAC of .135g% alcohol. Katy Robertson was subsequently booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for two counts of Vehicular Homicide.

The Louisiana State Police have investigated over a dozen fatal pedestrian crashes on Louisiana roadways this year. Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes could prevent most pedestrian related crashes.
