FREMONT, CALIFORNIA — Early this morning at 2:43 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Summit Dr. and Mello St. in the Northgate neighborhood, on the report of a shooting. When officers arrived they located two males suffering from gun shot wounds.

The victims reported that just prior to the shooting, they were home at their residence in the 3000 block of Summit Dr. While inside the home, they heard noises outside that sounded like people. They went outside to investigate and found four persons in the process of burglarizing a vehicle in their driveway. The victims attempted to intervene and one of the suspects produced a handgun and shot each victim at least one time. The suspects, described as two Hispanic males and two Hispanic females, fled on foot and abandoned a vehicle at the scene.

The suspects fled north on Mello St. to Mountain Ave and were last seen turning in the westbound direction. A large perimeter was established with the assistance of ACSO and UCPD. An extensive search was conducted with the use of a tracking K9, apprehension K9, and Fremont Fire’s UAV equipped with FLIR. The yard to yard search was met with negative results.

The two victims were transported to a trauma center where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The neighborhood perimeter has been broken down.
