Two teenagers have been seriously injured after they crashed a stolen undercover police car into a bus.

They were both trapped in the stolen car for an hour and had to be freed from the mangled wreckage after slamming into the bus in Box Hill in Melbourne’s east.

There were no passengers in the bus, which was not in service, but the driver has been taken to Box Hill Hospital with minor injuries.

The police car, which was stolen from a home in Hughesdale last night, was driving west along Asquith St when officers in another unmarked car spotted it about 1.05pm.

The driver of the stolen car, believed to be in his late teens, suffered injuries to his lower body and face and has been taken to The Alfred hospital in a serious condition.

His passenger, who is also believed to be in his late teens, has been taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

Gina Zhang, who owns a business in the area, told the Herald Sun she saw steam coming out of the stolen car.

‘I got out and saw the accident and what appeared to be steam coming out of the car,’ she said.

‘When I first saw it I thought ‘this is really bad’. I’m just so happy everyone is ok.’

Police are currently investigating the incident and have appealing for witnesses.
