20 Illegal Immigrants Found in Cargo Truck Near Sierra Blanca, Texas

Sierra Blanca, Texas – On August 14, 2017 at approximately 6:40 a.m. Big Bend Sector U.S. Border Patrol Agents discovered 20 undocumented immigrants in the back of a 1993 Freight liner cargo truck.

The driver, a 21 year old male United States citizen, presented himself for inspection at the Sierra Blanca Checkpoint, located on eastbound Interstate 10 near Sierra Blanca, TX.

Border Patrol Agents referred the cargo truck for secondary inspection and discovered several people in the cargo area of the truck. U.S. Border Patrol Agents quickly assessed the occupants and determined they were in relatively good health and not in need of additional medical attention. After an immigration inspection it was determined that all were illegally present in the United States. The 20 undocumented immigrants were from Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador and were all male.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents responded to the checkpoint, and arrested the driver who is charged with alien smuggling. The HSI investigation is ongoing.
