East Baltimore — Eron Johnson was convicted by a Baltimore City jury of second degree assault and first degree sex offense.

Assistant State’s Attorneys Jennifer McAllister and Robert Render prosecuted the case.

At approximately 3:00 a.m. on April 27, 2017, police received a call for a possible rape in progress at Old Town Mall. Upon arrival, officers spotted Johnson running away from his victim. Police pursued and apprehended him.

Police then spoke with the victim, who said she was sexually assaulted and identified Johnson as her attacker. She informed police that Johnson had a knife in his left front pocket. Police searched Johnson and located the knife described by the victim.

The victim was interviewed and reported that she was walking through the area when Johnson approached her and asked, “Are you trying to make some money?”

After the victim refused, Johnson dragged her into an abandoned store front, threatened her, and sexually assaulted her. The victim tried to get away but the defendant pulled out a knife, forced the victim to the ground, put the knife to her throat and threated to punch her in her face. He then dragged her back to the store front and again sexually assaulted her.

A passerby heard the victim’s cries and called 911.

“I’m thankful that someone had the presence of mind to call 911 when they heard the woman’s cries for help. It is a reminder that we are one another’s keeper,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “In this case, the citizen did their part by alerting law enforcement and law enforcement did its part by stopping the attack, apprehending the defendant, and prosecuting him. The criminal justice system works when we all work together.”

Johnson was previously convicted of rape in 2001. Johnson—who is awaiting sentencing— faces Life in prison as a result of this conviction.
