NYPD Urged To Exercise Heightened Vigilance After Philadelphia Police Officer Attack

As a result of the attacks on police officers in Philadelphia and Paris, the NYPD is now urging officers to exercise heightened vigilance.

On Thursday, January 7, an individual, armed with a knife, attempted to assault police officers outside a police station in Paris, France. The man rushed up to the uniformed officers and lunged at them with the knife. A piece of paper with the flag of the terrorist group the Islamic state is believed to have been found on the attacker’s body.

On January 7, an individual armed with a 9mm handgun attacked an officer of the Philadelphia police department. The officer was in his patrol vehicle when the assailant walked towards him and began shooting.

The attack took place shortly before midnight. Thirteen shots are reported to have been fired, three of which struck the officer, in his arm. The suspect has been apprehended and the officer is expected to recover.

The NYPD warned members of service that ISIS has called for its supporters and sympathizers in the united states to carry out attacks, specifically mentioning law enforcement, military, and intelligence personnel as priority targets.
