6th Grader Brings Gun To School, Threatens to Kill Classmate

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — An 11-year-old sixth-grader brought a gun to school Wednesday and threatened to shoot a classmate, police say.

Another child at the school told teachers about the weapon and police were called.

School officials found a gun in the boy’s backpack. The firearm was unloaded and no ammunition was located.

The incident occurred at the LEAD Prep Southeast school.

The gun found was a .25 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

The child was taken to the juvenile Justice Center. The 11-year-old faces weapons and assault charges.

Police did not say if they know how the boy obtained of the weapon.

An investigation is ongoing.
