COLORADO — On Halloween, at 8:45 AM, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding shots fired in the 200 block of North Prospect Street.

Officers received a description of the suspect and their direction of travel. Officers encountered the suspect at Platte Avenue and Wasatch Street. The suspect fired multiple shots at the officers. CSPD officers returned fire.

The crime scene investigation covers multiple city blocks.

Three victims were found dead by police. In addition to the three victims, the suspect was killed by responding officers.

Per Gazette.com: “A man carrying a rifle and can of gasoline into a Prospect Street home on Saturday morning later reappeared with a pistol added to his armaments.

Then came the chilling sound of a passing bicyclist begging for his life.

“Don’t shoot me!” the bicyclist yelled before two shots killed him, neighbors said.”

“He turned around and shot the boy, and the boy screamed, ‘Why did you shoot me?’ Then he shot him three more times and as he hit the ground he screamed ‘Oh god, no,'” shooting witness Betty Barker told KOAA. She said the victim then died.

The officers involved have been placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with CSPD policy.

Police say it appears the victims were chosen at random.

The Colorado Springs Police Department and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
