Agents Find Over 1 and a Half Tons of Marijuana Concealed In Commercial Shipment of Vegetables

PHARR, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility discovered 3,086 pounds of alleged marijuana within a commercial trailer.

“Our officers’ diligence continues to prevail. We continue to keep our communities safe by preventing significant loads of narcotics from entering our country, like this one,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

The seizure occurred on Feb. 3, when CBP officers assigned to the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility encountered a blue 1998 International tractor trailer hauling a shipment of mixed vegetables. After the conveyance was referred for a secondary inspection, CBP officers along with the help of a canine team located the narcotics. CBP officers extracted 1,304 packages containing a total of 3,086 pounds of alleged marijuana concealed within the commercial trailer.

CBP OFO seized the drugs, valued at approximately $617,288. The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations special agents.
