An Alabama teenager has been fatally shot in his bedroom during a fight with his cousin over a video game controller.

Bobby Baker, aged 18, was hit in the chest at his Birmingham home and was later found lying on the floor by police at around 11:45 PM on Friday.

Authorities said the fight began after the cousin entered Baker’s bedroom and knocked the controller from his hand, according to WBRC

They then started to wrestle each other. A gun was then removed from the cousin’s waist and were fighting over the weapon when it went off and struck Baker, police said.

The 21-year-old cousin, whose name has not been released by authorities, was taken into custody and placed on a 48-hour hold, according to AL.com

Kueocia Zimmerman, Baker’s sister, said she believes the boys had just been playing around when the gun went off.

‘They started wrestling, which they always do,’ she told ABC 33/40. ‘They always wrestle, they just like normal boys.’

Zimmerman said she doesn’t believe her cousin had any intention of killing Baker and that the family bears no ill will toward him.

‘He loved him too,’ she said. ‘We ain’t angry or anything. I’m crying because of my cousin. I knew he didn’t mean to do it.’

Zimmerman said Baker recently graduated high school and had been planning to join the military.
