ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police closed off a large area at the Civic Plaza and City Hall in downtown Albuquerque on Monday.
Officials said the incident was a ‘possible hostage situation’ and have urged residents to avoid the area.
According to The Albuquerque Journal, ‘Members of the City Council Finance Committee were meeting on the 9th floor of the building. They were told to leave the meeting and go to individual locked offices.’
SWAT was on scene sweeping the area. One person has been detained, their role was unknown.

Police later tweeted: “At this point in time, there is no evidence of an active shooter. Trying to confirm if there’s an active hostage situation.”
