An amateur boxer shot and killed his rival after years of consistently losing to him, authorities have said.

Darrell Telisme, aged 24, was arrested after Stan Stanisclasse, aged 23, was gunned down in the doorway of his West Palm Beach, Florida, apartment on Thursday after celebrating Thanksgiving with a night out.

The pair were outside a pizza shop on Wednesday night when Telisme suggested they fight, insisting he was stronger than former Florida Golden Glove winner Stanisclasse.

Again, Telisme lost, and the pair parted ways. But on Thanksgiving morning at 4am, police say Telisme turned up at his home with a pistol and shot him in the head.

A witness told The Palm Beach Post that Telisme shouted:  ‘The fight is over. It’s squashed.’

Telisme was arrested on Thursday and is behind bars facing first degree murder charges.

Dave Lewter, the owner of the gym where the pair trained, said: ‘I tried working with Darrell, but he just didn’t get it. He wasn’t the talented, athletic guy he thought he was.

‘I still can’t believe it,’ he added. ‘The fact that somebody’s ego can get to this point is just senseless, ridiculous, stupid.’

Telisme allegedly told detectives he had tried to advance his career, but could only watch as Stanisclasse enjoyed the success.
