ALABAMA -- In the early morning hours of October 30th, 2015 the Morgan County E911 Center received a call of a possible suicidal person in the area of Harborview apartments. Multiple Officers with the Decatur Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to the area and began to search for the man. While Officers were searching the area, two men, one of who is identified as Chris Lee Jones, were outside the Hard Dock restaurant, which is almost directly across the river from where the Officers were searching for the suicidal individual. Those individuals began to fire and AR-15 rifle at a dumpster in the parking lot of the business. The Officers, who believed at that time they were possibly being fired upon, retreated and set up a perimeter around the boat harbor. The Decatur Police Department’s Special Response Unit was called to the scene to move into the boat harbor and locate the person responsible for firing the weapon. As the SRU was making entry into the harbor, several cars began to exit. The occupants of those cars were stopped and detained. Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene to begin an investigation. During the course of the investigation it was discovered that Jones had received the rifle at a birthday party earlier in the evening. Jones was placed under arrest for Wrongful Discharge of a firearm within the city limits as well as possession of marihuana and illegal possession of prescription medication. His bond was set at $1,500.00. -DPD

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — A man actively involved in a shootout on 22nd Avenue North at just before noon today is thus far not interested in telling police what was going on despite being shot in the neck and left at the scene by his associate.

Thomas H. Smith IV, 20, of Underwood Street, is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for the non-life threatening wound.

Witnesses reported that Smith was the front seat passenger in a tan/brown sedan that was traveling on 22nd Avenue North at Formosa Street in front of a gray or green Malibu-type car.  Occupants of the two vehicles were shooting at each other.  Smith got out of the tan/brown vehicle armed with an AR-15 rifle and continued shooting at the other car, the occupants of which were described as male Hispanics.  A wounded Smith went to a nearby resident and asked that she call for help.

The two vehicles fled the scene.  The AR-15 rifle and a semi-automatic pistol were recovered by officers in the street.
