Belgium To Hire 1,000 More Police Officers To Tackle Islamic Radicalism

Government officials in Belgian have recently approved hiring 1,000 new police officers in an attempt to combat Islamic radicalism.

The move was presenter by the Interior minister who called for adding 300 officers this year and at least 500 other officers by 2017.

Interior Minister Jan Jambon told AP: “The impact that we are looking for is to maximize security in this country and in Brussels and in all of the other cities of the country,”

Belgium is known to be one of the most notorious locations in Europe for recruiting foreign fighters enlisted by ISIS.

Jambon’s plan also includes more police snipers, computer equipment, DNA scanners, prison guards, training Muslim leaders and more judges.

The interior minister also said that at least 300 officers will be recruited in Molenbeek and other neighborhoods of Brussels that have a histroy of radical Islamic activity.

The move also includes an additional 96 detectives and over 260 CCTV cameras.

The security upgrade will cost the Belgian government over $334million.

Belgian citizens and local officials have expressed their support and satisfaction for the increase in security.
