DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station arrested a convicted sex offender who had been previously removed.

“An aggravated felon and registered sex offender was stopped before doing more harm to the citizens of this great nation,” said Del Rio Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Matthew J. Hudak. “This arrest highlights how dedicated Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents are to the safety of our community.”

On Jan. 11, Yony Alexander Garcia-Chavez, 37, an undocumented immigrant from Honduras, was apprehended by Brackettville Border Patrol agents near Spofford. During processing, agents discovered that the subject was previously arrested for aggravated sexual assault on a minor in January of 2008 near Houston. He was convicted in January of 2009 and was sentenced to eight years confinement. Garcia-Chavez was deported to Honduras after completing his prison sentence.

Garcia-Chavez faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation – 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
