LORDSBURG, N.M. – El Paso Sector Border Patrol Agents currently assigned, over the holidays, to Forward Operating Base Bounds in the Lordsburg Border Patrol Station’s area of responsibility, rescued a group of undocumented aliens as their guides and smugglers abandoned them during freezing weather conditions.

Agents located the group of 18 migrants at approximately 7:00 a.m. December 22. The group consisted of six adults and twelve minors with the youngest being a one year old. When questioned, the migrants admitted to being foreign nationals with no documents to be or remain legally in the United States. Three member of the group were identified as U.S. citizens. The migrants further advised the agents that the night before, a group of smugglers and guides abandoned them in the desert telling them to find authorities to help them.

Due to the freezing rain, sleet, elevated wind gusts, and water saturated clothing, the agents immediately transported the group to the forward operating base and without fail ensured their health and safety by placing them inside the facility’s common area, while arrangements were secured for their transportation to the Lordsburg Border Patrol Station.

Upon arrival to the Lordsburg Border Patrol Station, a Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician screened and evaluated all the migrants and found that none required further medical assistance. All the migrants have been processed and placed in immigration proceedings.
