BOSTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Field Operations (OFO), at Boston Logan International Airport arrested a man with an active warrant for sexual assault charges, attempting to board an outbound flight over the weekend.
On Saturday, April 22, Mr. Francisco Jose Liria, a 48-year-old U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident and Citizen of the Dominican Republic, was scheduled to depart from Boston Logan Airport to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
CBP officers confirmed Liria was an exact match to an active National Crime Information Center (NCIC) arrest warrant, wanted by the Fauquier County Sheriff’s office in Fauquier County, Va., on charges of sexual assault. CBP officers intercepted and arrested the subject as he attempted to board his flight.
Working in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police (MSP), Mr. Liria was taken into custody and will be extradited to Virginia to face charges.
“CBP officers routinely encounter and stop dangerous fugitives, entering and attempting to depart the United States,” said CBP Boston Director of Field Operations William A. Ferrara. “Working with our law enforcement partners, we are able to intercept these wanted individuals, and ensure they face justice in their respective jurisdictions.”
Criminal charges are merely allegations. Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
CBP routinely conducts inspection operations on arriving and departing international flights, arrests an average of 22 wanted persons a day at U.S. ports of entry nationwide and intercepts narcotics, weapons, currency, prohibited agriculture products, and other illicit items. During Fiscal Year 2016, CBP officers across the Boston Field Office conducted more than 250 arrests of individuals wanted for crimes ranging from homicide and assault and battery to sexual assault of a minor and possession of illegal weapons.
