Two Dead In Queens Crane Accident

Two people have been confirmed dead after a crane accident in Queens, officials confirmed.

The incident happened at about 12 p.m. at 81-10 134th Street in the Briarwood section of Queens.

FDNY officials report that a large beam came crashing down onto a massive construction crane

FDNY EMS Paramedics reportedly pronounced the men dead on the scene.

The accident happened at the Van Wyck Expressway construction zone, which has been going on for more than six years.

Statement from FDNY: During construction operations a mobile six-axle crane was lifting a support beam when the load shifted, striking a four-story building under construction. The load shifting caused the beam to fall onto two construction workers. Both workers have succumbed to their injuries.

DOB and NYPD are on scene conducting their investigation.
OSHA has been notified and is responding.

There is no immediate impact to the surrounding area.

134th Street from Union Turnpike to Hoover Avenue is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

FDNY will return when the crime scene investigation is completed.
