One of the UK’s most notorious hate preachers now faces jail time after over two decades of taunting authorities and promoting extremism in Britain.

Anjem Choudary, aged 49, encouraged backing for ISIS in a series of YouTube videos, the Old Bailey court heard.

His group became a haven for terrorists, which accepted Michael Adebolago, the radical Islamist who killed British soldier Lee Rigby in 2013.

Choudary was found guilty of inviting support for a proscribed organisation under the terrorism act 2000.

Choudary and co-defendant Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, 33, were found guilty of encouraging support for IS between June 29 2014 and March 6 2015.

Their trial heard Choudary swore an oath of allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

He now faces a maximum possible sentence of 10 years in prison.

Choudary said: ‘We initiate the jihad against the kuffar [disbelievers] to make the name of Allah in the highest. He never considered defending yourself part of jihad. He said you need to send in the army… It is about time we resumed conquering for the sake of Allah.

‘Next time when your child is at school and the teacher asks, “What is your ambition?” They should say, “to dominate the whole world by Islam, including Britain, that is my ambition”.’
