Anthony Weiner Checks Into Rehab: Report

In rehab, reportedly: former congressman Anthony Weiner, whose sexting cost him his congressional seat, a bid for New York mayor, and, as of this week, whatever shred of goodwill was left among Democrats after an FBI probe of his relationship with an underage girl turned up emails possibly relating to the agency’s investigation of Hillary Clinton.

There was really nowhere else for Weiner to go after the controversy over the feds’ discovery (on a laptop he apparently shared with his estranged wife, Clinton right-hand Huma Abedin) roiled the presidential campaign in the week leading up to the election. The Daily Mail reports that the unnamed facility where Weiner is being treated “separates men and women and its program includes counseling for those addicted to cybersex and exhibitionism as well as addictions to anonymous sex and porn.”

Weiner sought treatment in 2011 when news first broke of his racy online flirtations, partly at the urging of his colleagues. (Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi urged him to step down and “seek help without the pressures of being a member of Congress.”) Several sexting scandals later (and a cringe-inducing documentary of his failed mayoral bid), Abedin announced in August that the couple had split.
