UPDATE: Driver In School Bus Crash That Killed Two Children, 6 & 7, Had Drugs On Him

Knoxville, TN –An incident report from the Knoxville Police Department reveals that the driver of a school bus that crashed into another bus Tuesday had prescription drugs on his person, WKRN reported.

James Davenport was identified by police as the driver of Bus No. 44. It is not yet known if he had drugs in his system at the time as a toxicology report is pending.

Killed in the crash were Zykia Burns, 6, Seraya Glasper, 7, both students, and a teacher’s aide Kimberly Riddle, 46.


EARLIER REPORT: 12/2/14 – (WATE) -Police say two children and one adult are dead, 20 others injured after two school buses were involved in a crash this afternoon in East Knoxville.

The crash was reported just before 3 p.m. on Asheville Highway at Gov. John Sevier Highway involving buses 44 and 57 serving Chilhowee Intermediate School and Sunnyview Primary School.

Some of those hurt have been taken to UT Medical Center, others have been taken to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

Children’s hospital told WVLT-TV they have been put on stand by to receive 17 children.
