HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Florida — First responders were on the scene of a ‘major incident’ at the ‘Big Bend’ TECO plant in Apollo Beach Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
Multiple burn victims were reported by local media—there were at least two fatalities.
It was unclear what caused the incident but fire officials are investigating it as an ‘industrial accident.’

Big Bend Power Station is a major coal-fired power plant, located across Tampa Bay from Tampa, Florida on nearly 1,500 acres in southeastern Hillsborough County, close to Apollo Beach. It is owned and operated by TECO Energy.
