Baton Rouge Shooter Was Nation of Islam Member; Social Media Accounts Revealed

LOUISIANA — 29-year old Gavin Eugene Long, a black man from Kansas City, Missouri, shot six Baton Rouge-area police officers at approximately 8:40 a.m. CDT on Sunday.

Three of the officers died and three more were hospitalized at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.

Of the officers that died, two were members of the Baton Rouge Police Department; the third worked for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Long, the lone shooter, died in a shootout with police at the scene.

Long was reportedly a member of the nation of Islam.

Long attended the University of Alabama and was honorably discharged from the Marines in 2010, according to CBS news.
