***UPDATE: This afternoon, Wesley Mathews was arrested and charged with Injury to a Child (TPC 22.04), a first degree felony punishable by life or from 5 to 99 years in prison. Mr. Mathews voluntarily arrived at the Richardson Police Station with his attorney and asked to speak with detectives. TEXAS — Since the time Sherin Mathews was reported missing on Saturday morning, October 7th, the Richardson Police Department and other law enforcement entities have been working to locate her. On Sunday, around 11:00am, during one of those search operations, the body of a small child was discovered in the area of E. Spring Valley Rd. and S. Bowser Rd. The area has been blocked off as a crime scene.

Sherin’s adoptive father, Wesley Mathews was already arrested by Richardson Police detectives and charged with Abandoning or Endangering a Child. This charge was a result of his decision to place her outside a place of safety, which Mathews described to officers as being unsafe and contributing to her disappearance. He has since been released on a $250,000 bond.

Sherin Mathews was last seen by Mathews outside the family’s backyard in the 900 blk. of Sunningdale two weeks ago.

Police said at the time Mathews left her outside late at night as punishment for not drinking her milk.mathewsdisapperancediptychrichardsonpolicefacebook

KTRK reported: Police said he claimed she was placed near a tree in alleyway where coyotes were known to roam. When he returned for his daughter 15 minutes later, he said he could not find Sherin.

Richardson Police said a positive identification has not been made, but they believe it is the body of Mathews. A cause of death also has not been identified.

The investigation continues.
