LANCASTER, CA — A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant was shot Wednesday afternoon, prompting a manhunt for the gunman.
The scene is near 3240 West Avenue J 6.
The wounded officer was rushed to Antelope Valley Hospital where he later died.
The fallen officer has been identified as Sgt. Steve Owen.
Antelope Valley College ordered students to shelter in place.
The shooting occurred as Owen responded to a burglary call.
A suspect was later apprehended by SWAT officers after surrendering in a resident’s backyard.
