District Heights, Maryland Mayor Found Dead

MARYLAND — District Heights Mayor, James L. Walls Jr. died at his home on Thursday.

EMS and fire officials were called to the home around noon due to a medical emergency.

He was declared dead at the scene.

A cause of death was not known.

Walls, Jr. was re-elected Mayor of the City of District Heights, Maryland on May 5, 2014 for a third term. He is the youngest person in the City’s history to be elected as a Mayor, as well as the youngest person to ever serve as Vice Mayor and City Commissioner.

Mayor Walls received accolades from many Cities and States from around the United States and the World for his outstanding commitment and dedication to public and community service.

In 2008, Mayor Walls received the Distinguished “Martin Luther King Foundation Award for Civic Engagement”. In 2013, He received the first Annual Nelson Mandela Leadership Award from the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials for his International work.
