BRAZIL — Police In Rio responded to a suspicious device inside the Maracanã Stadium on Sunday.
The location is scheduled to host the Olympics’ opening ceremony.
The device in question was reportedly a toolbox. Police sent in a robot to investigate.
As the robot made contact with the device, it exploded, 7 News reported.
No injuries were reported and it was unclear what kind of damage was done.
Local media were calling the incident a ‘controlled’ blast.
