GERMANY — (Scroll down for video) — The Hannover football stadium in Germany was evacuated Tuesday for ‘security reasons’, police said. A Music venue and train station were also evacuated.
According to witnesses at the soccer match, officials told the crowd over the loud speaker: “Move away from the stadium. Do not stand still. Do not panic.”
A stadium announcement later said the Germany-Netherlands game was cancelled.
There was a massive police presence inside and outside of the arena after a suspicious item had been found before the game.
Local media says police discovered a truck bomb disguised as an ambulance near the stadium.
Police told Sky News Sports, ‘There is a Serious Threat to the City’ … ‘Plan of Explosion’ … ‘There was a device intended to be detonated inside the stadium.’
CNN reports that Chancelor Angela Merkel was to attend the soccer game.
Roads were closed around the stadium. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said, “There is a high (terror) threat for Germany & Europe.” … “No explosives have been found” … “No arrests have been made.”
