KANSAS — Kansas House Rep. Patsy Terrell (D) was found dead in her hotel room in Topeka Wednesday, local lawmakers confirmed.

Rep. Linda Gallagher, (R), of Lenexa said “I’m in shock […] She was a very dedicated representative and focused on doing the very best she could to represent her district in the Hutchinson area. She was one of the driving forces behind trying to get the very best possible tax bill that we could get.”

Rep. Jim Ward, (D), of Wichita said, “We are heartbroken that Patsy passed away. She cast a bright light on the House of Representatives. We will miss her cheerful spirit and bright smile.”

Police did not immediately release details about Terrell’s death but said they were investigating a scene at the downtown Ramada.

Terrell represented the 102nd district in the Kansas House of Representatives starting in January of 2017.
