Multiple people were killed and others injured Sunday after gunmen opened fire on worshipers at a Quebec City mosque during evening prayers, police and local media said.
The mosque’s president told Reuters that five people were killed. Police said via Twitter that there were “deaths and injuries” and that suspects had been arrested. They did not specify a number.
Witnesses said that as many as three gunmen fired at the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center, according to the Montreal Gazette. A witness told Reuters that about 40 people were inside the mosque during the shooting.
A Facebook Live video showed numerous police cars and ambulances surrounding the mosque, which was roped off with yellow police tape.
In June, someone left a pig’s head outside the mosque, CBC Radio-Canada reported at the time.
