Two Palm Springs Officers Assasinated; Manhunt Underway

PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA — Three Palm Springs police officers were shot Saturday afternoon while responding to a ‘domestic disturbance’ call. Two of the wounded Officers were later confirmed deceased.

The scene is in the 2700 block of Cypress Ave. / Del Lago Ave.

The fallen officers were identified by CNN as ‘Jose Gilbert Vega, a 35-year veteran officer working an overtime shift, and Lesley Zerebny, 27, a mother of a 4-month-old child, Police Chief Bryan Reyes said Saturday.’

The Desert Sun reported: “Frances Serrano, who lives directly across the street from where the shooting took place, spoke to the father of the suspected shooter moments before the incident. The father told Serrano that his son, who has mental issues, had a gun and wanted to shoot cops.

“He came over and asked for help,” she said.

Serrano called the police and the father walked back toward his house. Soon after, Serrano heard gunshots. ” 

Desert Regional Hospital was placed on lockdown.

A large manhunt is underway for the shooter.
