Police have evacuated the area around the Paris Eiffel tower and have cordoned off the surrounding area, according to reports.
Eyewitnesses described a large police presence at the scene of the Eiffel tower.
The exact reason for the evacuation is not yet known.
No panic was reported during the evacuation.
Visitors have posted pictures on social media of armed police cordoning off the entrance area.
The Eiffel Tower is a wrought iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris, France.
It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower.
