A senior campaign advisor has told NBC that John Kasich will announce later today he is suspending his campaign for president.

The Ohio governor told news networks that he will be making a statement in his hometown of Columbus at 5 o.m. ET.

Kasich was the last candidate standing against Donald Trump in the Republican presidential primary race after Ted Cruz suspended his campaign on Tuesday.

“From the beginning I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory. Tonight, I’m sorry to say, it appears that path has been foreclosed,” Cruz said on Tuesday.

A media event in Virginia scheduled for the same time has been cancelled, the campaign said.
