NJ Man Arrested In Alleged Sexual Assault Of 4-Year-Old Boy

NEW JERSEY — On August 2, 2015, Pt. Pleasant Borough Police Det. Michelle Hill and Ocean County Prosecutor Special Victims Det. Melissa Matthews arrested Russell Cortese, 66, of Jersey City for the alleged Aggravated Sexual Assault of a 4 year old male.

The investigation and subsequent arrest were initiated on Sunday (8/2) based upon information provided by the child. Based on the reported information, Detectives Hill and Matthews located Cortese at an address in Pt. Pleasant Borough where he was visiting. The facts developed as a result of their investigation led to Senior Assistant Prosecutor Terry Linardakis approving charges for Aggravated Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Cortese was immediately taken into custody by the investigating detectives.   Bail was set by the Honorable Joseph L. Foster, J.S.C. at $150,000 with no 10% option. Nicole’s Law and a no victim contact order were implemented. The Division of Child Protection and Permanency were notified. Also assisting in the investigation were OCPO Det. Alex Bromley and Ocean County Sheriff’s Depart CSI Det. Stephen Capoano.

The media and public are reminded that criminal charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
