**UPDATE: North Korea says it has conducted a successful hydrogen bomb test. The test is the second since Kim Jong Un became supreme leader and began consolidating power through a series of purges and provocations against South Korea, Bloomberg reported.**

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was detected very close to a North Korea nuclear test site, according to the USGS.

There were no immediate signs of a nuclear test… Although, Chinese Earthquake monitors say a ‘suspected explosion’ was detected, the AFP reported.

South Korea’s Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se called for an emergency meeting. “The Foreign Ministry is currently holding a meeting presided over by the minister to immediately determine the situation following the reports,” a ministry official told Yonhap News.

The quake was recorded around 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday and was centered at a facility northwest of Kilju in the North’s northern region.

The incident is believed to be caused artificially.

According to the AP, the test would mark another big step toward Pyongyang’s goal of building a warhead that can be mounted on a missile capable of reaching the U.S. mainland.

Wiki: “The Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site is located in mountainous terrain 2 km (1.2 mi) south of Mantapsan, 2 km (1.2 mi) west of Hwasong concentration camp and 12 km (7.5 mi) northwest of Punggye-ri and has three visible tunnel entrances.[1]

The most proximate place to the possible nuclear underground test site is Chik-tong, a small populated place located at 41°16’00″N 129°06’00″E. Sungjibaegam is a settlement located 24 kilometres (15 mi) from the tremor of the 2013 test.[3] Punggye-ri railway station is located at 41°13°0833N Longitude: 129°163611.

On April 8, 2013, South Korea had observed activity at Punggye-ri, suggesting that a fourth underground test was being prepared.
