An Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot by a convicted felon during a gunfight on Tuesday. The incident happened in the 8500 block of South Texas Avenue and Americana Boulevard in Holden Heights, Orlando.
A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said the suspect has been shot dead.
The Orlando Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol officers all responded to the shooting, as well as emergency personnel.
The deputy was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the hand.
The deputy is in stable condition, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Channel 9 reported that the 20-year-old suspect was known to deputies and was being picked up on a warrant for several robberies.
The suspect, who was not being identified until next of kin is notified, was tried and convicted of attempted murder when he was 17 the Orlando Sentinel reported. He was recently released from prison.
