MAYPEARL, Texas — Maypearl Police Chief Kevin Coffey was arrested and charged Wednesday on four felony charges including sex assault of child, according to CBS-DFW.
He has turned himself in to the Ellis County Jail.
Other charges include indecency with a child by contact, exposure and sexual performance by a child.
Charges against Chief Coffey involve his alleged actions with one underage girl.
From WFAA: According to the affidavits for the search warrant, a Texas Ranger met with the parents of a 16-year-old girl at a Whataburger in Venus, Texas, and they told the Ranger that their daughter had been in contact with Coffey from the time she was 14 years old through cell phones and in-person interaction.
Among other things, the girl said Coffey would message her almost daily, was “very touchy” around her, and Coffey’s messages had gotten progressively worse since he started messaging her.
She also told the Ranger she used to smoke marijuana and “Chief Coffey would enjoy seeing her stoned.” She said she felt Coffey was waiting until she was 17 to try and have sex with her, according to the search warrant affidavit.
The 49-year-old is on administrative leave with pay. An investigation is ongoing.
