Queens School Evacuated Over High Carbon Monoxide Levels

A school in Queens has been evacuated on Tuesday morning due to high carbon monoxide levels.

550 students and 100 faculty members were evacuated in Queens Village at around 9 a.m. after it was discovered there were high CO levels in the basement and inside an electrical room.

The Office of Emergency Management a feeder cable caught fire under the street outside, which sent fumes into the school’s basement.

There are no fumes believed to have entered the school’s areas and classrooms.

Students in pre-school through fifth grade were relocated to P.S. 33 on 222nd Street. Students in grades six through eight were taken to I.S. 109 on 92nd Avenue.

 

All of the students have been evacuated to a local school nearby.

No injuries have currently been reported.
