PARIS — An unidentified man was shot by police after he reportedly attacked an officer with a hammer near Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
The suspect was shot twice by the armed officer and taken to a hospital alive, officials said.
Paris counter-terrorism officials have opened an investigation.
It was unclear if the attacker was alone. The area around the Cathedral was evacuated.
Witnesses reported hearing the gunfire.
