Texas City, Texas Orders Residents To Shelter In Place Due To “Chemical Release”

Galveston County, TX – The city of Texas City, Texas told all residents to shelter in place Tuesday afternoon due to “an industrial alarm from the industrial sector.”

The all-clear was later given and no injuries were reported. 

“At this moment we are experiencing an industrial alarm from the industrial sector,” the city wrote in a public alert. “Texas City is calling for a shelter in place specifically for 5th Ave S to Texas Ave between 14th and 34th St . Please go indoors. Turn off air-conditioning units and close all windows, and continue to monitor social media.”

“Emergency personnel are on-site with detection monitoring systems and are further investigating. Currently, no detection levels have been indicated. We are waiting for an all-clear from the facility.”

People in the area received an alert on their phones warning of a “chemical release.”

The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after.
