The FBI and the director of national intelligence, John Ratcliffe, held an emergency news conference Wednesday evening to announce that Russia and Iran have obtained some voter registration data, aiming to interfere in the 2020 Presidential election.

“We would like to alert the public that we have identified that two foreign actors, Iran and Russia have taken specific actions to influence public opinion relating to our elections,” Ratcliffe said.

Iran has been sending spoof emails to confuse voters with false information, the officials said. Officials say still, our election systems are resilient and secure.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said, “We are not going to tolerate any interference in our elections. We are not going to let our guard down.”
