POLK COUNTY, Florida — 25-year-old Cheyanne Jessie of Lakeland has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Tampering with Evidence in the deaths of her father and daughter.

At approximately 11:06 am, on Saturday, August 1, 2015, Jessie contacted the Polk County Sheriff’s Office to report her father, 50-year-old Mark Weekly, and her 6-year-old daughter, Meredith Jessie missing since July 18, 2015.

Jessie first told detectives she had left her child in her father’s care and had not heard from him since a “text message” from her father, Mark Weekly, advising he had a terminal illness and had less than a year to live and wanted to spend his remaining days with his granddaughter, Meredith, and would be traveling to Georgia.  Jessie told detectives her father had instructed her, via text, to sell all of his personal belongings.

Throughout the investigation, detectives found numerous inconsistencies in Cheyanne’s account of the events prior to her reporting her father and daughter missing.

Ultimately, after searching throughout the night, detectives found the remains of both 50-year-old Mark Weekly and 6-year-old Meredith Jessie.  The bodies had been placed in plastic totes and placed in an outdoor structure (shed) on a neighbor’s property some 200-300 yards away from Weekly’s residence at Drane Field Road, Lakeland.

From BayNews9: Detectives believe Jessie killed her father and daughter on July 18. Then investigators say the 25 year old left their bodies inside of her father’s home for days before putting the remains in duffel bags and hiding them behind a neighbor’s shed.

(Sheriff Grady) Judd said they believe a gun and a knife was used. And when they asked Jessie why she did it she said she was defending herself from her dad and she admitted to having problems with her daughter.

“She didn’t like her daughter,” Judd said. “She was frustrated with her daughter. She was frustrated with the child and as a result she didn’t want the child to mess up the relationship she had with the boyfriend.”

Cheyanne Jessie was booked into the Polk County Jail on Sunday, August 02, 2015.
