A woman has been killed on Thanksgiving by a man who attempted to drive off but crashed and then tried to carjack another.

Despite his attempts to escape, police arrested the 24-year-old at the chaotic scene in Brooklyn, which one person described as ‘gruesome’ as they described the victim’s horrific injuries.

Witnesses said they were shocked by the death of the 56-year-old, and the lengths the driver went to to try and escape, smashing up four cars on the busy road on Thanksgiving night.

Tianna Humphrey, 18, said: ‘He was just trying to run on the other side (of the street) to try and open people’s car doors as they’re driving … like it was ‘Grand Theft Auto,’ reports the Daily News.

The culprit was driving a Mercedes-Benz that initially hit a Nissan Murano that was stopped at a red light at around 7.15pm, and he tried to flee, speeding off into the distance.

After hitting the woman, the driver of the car had driven off and as he did, smashed into a Dodge Caravan that caused a three-car pile-up also involving a Dodge Charger and an Audi Q7.

Determined to escape, he then got out of his car and tried to flag down others so he could attempt to remove the driver and make off in the vehicle.

However, cops caught him and put him in cuffs at the scene, then took him to Brookdale Hospital for treatment after his involvement in the two car crashes in quick succession.

Three other drivers were also injured, police said, but they have not yet released the identity of the victim or the suspect.
