INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field Operations at the International Falls Port of Entry arrested a man Sunday who is wanted as a material witness to a homicide in Iowa.
CBP officers arrested Abraham Roberts, 38, after a name check revealed that Roberts was the subject of a warrant. Roberts attempted to enter Canada at the Fort Frances, Ontario, Port of Entry and was returned to the United States. After U.S. Customs and Border Protection verified the outstanding warrant for arrest, Roberts was turned over to the Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office.
“This arrest demonstrates the continued cooperation between CBP and various state and local law enforcement agencies,” said International Falls Port Director Anthony Jackson. “The apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants along the U.S. – Canadian border is a critical element of our border security efforts.”
CBP officers on the U.S.-Canadian border have made previous arrests of individuals wanted for homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, child sexual abuse, fraud, larceny and military desertion, based on information obtained through record checks.
