A baby has died tragically died after its mother gave birth in a cycle lane before abandoning in it nearby shrubs.
Residents in the city of Shijiazhuang, central China, claimed they saw the shocking scene on a cycle lane of a busy street on the afternoon of October 5th.
Witnesses said the young woman fled the scene with a man waiting for her on a scooter.
The unidentified woman, reported to be in her early 20s, was spotted giving birth not far from a busy crossroads in Shijiazhuang.
An eyewitness said she saw the young mother crouched down in the middle of a cycling lane.
Eventually, the woman gave birth to a baby, which she swiftly wrapped up in a white sheet.
The witness claimed the woman had briefly considered putting the baby down the drain before abandoning it in the road-side bushes.
An unidentified man, who had been waiting with a scooter the whole time, fled with the woman after she abandoned the baby.
It is believed that the mother was just five or six months into her pregnant and had given birth prematurely.
However, it’s not known whether the baby was still alive when the woman had given birth.
The baby’s gender has not been released.
The young mother’s behaviour had been widely criticised by witnesses as well as by Chinese web users. Many have called the couple’s behaviour criminal.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
