BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Buffalo Border Patrol Station recently arrested an illegal alien who was found to have a felony arrest warrant issued in Mecklenburg, N.C., for taking indecent liberties with a child.

Buffalo Station agents reported to a concerned citizen’s call about the possibility of illegal aliens at a gas station in Cheektowaga, N.Y. Agents observed the vehicle with four occupants that matched the description of the concerned citizens’ information, approached the occupants, and identified themselves as U.S. Border Patrol agents.

The driver was determined to be a U.S. citizen and released at the scene. The three passengers, all males, admitted to being citizens of Mexico, without proper immigration documents to be present in the U.S. The three subjects admitted to illegally crossing the U.S. border by swimming across the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass, Texas.

Further investigation revealed that an arrest warrant has been issued for one of the passengers. The subject with the arrest warrant is being held at Batavia Federal Detention Facility until his extradition is coordinated with North Carolina authorities. The other two subjects, one being charged with illegal re-entry to the U.S., the other issued a warrant of arrest/notice to appear, are also being held at Batavia Federal Detention Facility awaiting removal proceedings.

“This arrest showcases the efforts of the men and women of the Buffalo Border Patrol Station, and community vigilance in reporting suspicious activity to law enforcement. Apprehending and removing criminals from our communities allows us a safer place to live,” said Jeff Wilson, Patrol Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Border Patrol Station.
