Police Officer Killed During Warrant Execution
ATLANTA — A Riverdale police officer was fatally shot in the line-of-duty on Thursday. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. The Officer has since died.
The shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 6600 block of Church Street as Officers were carrying out a ‘no-knock’ drug warrant. According to Channel 2 Action News, the suspect fled police through a back door. During the foot chase, the gunman turned and opened fire on Officers, striking one.
The officer is identified as Maj. Greg ‘Lem’ Barney.
The officer was shot twice, the station reported. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect, who is in critical condition.
