Dozens of party-goers are believed to have died in a huge fire that has destroyed a northern California warehouse during a party early Saturday.

The fire became so out of control that all fire units were ordered out of the building.

At least 75 people were inside when it broke out and now 55 firefighters are battling the blaze on three sides of the building.

Oakland police said there may be casualties in the fire, but didn’t have any more information.

Oakland police said those who were concerned about missing people in the fire should contact the Alameda County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau 510-382-3000.

People have also been posting images of people on Facebook who they believe to be missing.

The fire broke out at 11.30pm during the event said to be part of musician Golden Donna’s 100% Silk tour.
